“Salt and Light 2- Part 11”

Matthew 5:13-16

Focus on being the light of the world.  Jesus does not say His disciples are the
light of the darkness.  He tells them they are the light of the world.

Light does three things:  (1.)  It exposes that which lives in the darkness.  (2.)  It
lights the way out of the darkness.  (3.)  It gives hope to those who are lost in the
darkness.  We need to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

“The Standard for the Believer — Part 12”

Matthew 5:17-20

Lately in our nation there has been a great attack upon the Word of God and there is
also a growing hatred for those who stand for and proclaim the Truth of God’s Word.
After listening to this message listen to messages on A Nation In Turmoil which
will show the danger of a nation rebelling against God and His Word.  The danger is
that God will bring judgment upon that nation.  What will you do?

“The Standard for the Believer — Part 13”

Matthew 5:17-20

In Matthew 5:17 Jesus is addressing the thought of those that were around
Him that day.  People were wondering about His view of the O. T. Scriptures.

His teaching was far different from the Scribes and the Pharisees.  The Scribes and
the pharisees were busy teaching their own traditions with thousands of rules and
regulations which were doing nothing but binding people to legalism.  Jesus was
teaching grace and forgiveness.  His teaching was setting people free from legalism.
Jesus spent time with sinners and publicans.

“The Standard for the Believer — Part 14”

Matthew 5:17-20

All the rules and the regulations of the Scribes and the Pharisees were
enslaving the people of Israel.  Jesus’ message was one of grace and
forgiveness.

Jesus was setting people free from the legalism of the Scribes and the Pharisees
which had poisoned the minds of the people.  Jesus makes it very clear that the Word
of God is inspired and eternally important.  It will all come to pass just as it is
recorded  and there will not be one prophecy or promise that is left unfulfilled.  We
can hold on to all the Bible tells us and we will never be ashamed or disappointed.  In
Matthew 5:17-20 we find the Standard which the Spirit controlled person is to live by
and that standard is the Word of God.

“The Standard for the Believer — Part 15”

Matthew 5:17-20

Jesus addressed the thoughts of those around him and at the same time laid a
foundation for the verses that follow these.

Jesus addressed the questions in the minds of His disciples and He took the thought
about the law and the prophets and expounded upon it giving to them and to us one of
the richest passages in the entire Bible.

“The Definition of a Murderer (1)–Part 16”

Matthew 5:21-26

As Jesus preaches there were in His presence His disciples, the scribes, and the
Pharisees.  The scribes and Pharisees had poisoned the minds of the people
with their diluted teaching of the law and the prophets.

Aramic had become the language of the Israelites.  Interpreters were needed to
translate the Hebrew Bible.  The religious leaders desired for the people to rely upon
them for guidance.  The majority of the people were limited in their understanding of
the Old Testament because they were dependent upon the rabbis for their instruction.

“Worshiping God  — Part 17”

Matthew 5:23-26

Jesus was addressing people who were very familiar with the sacrificial system.
Coming to the temple they would give their sacrifice to the priest.

Jesus is telling them that if they come with their sacrifice and before it is offered to
God they remember there is someone they had offended they were to stop the
sacrifice and immediately go to that person, seek to reconcile, and then come back
and worship God.  In order to be right with God they had to first be right with their
fellow man. This is not the way of salvation; it is the way of worship following
salvation.

“God’s Standards for Marriage 1 — Part 18”

Matthew 5:27-30

The Lord was exposing man’s true condition so that His death on the cross
could be better understood.  Jesus is reaching out in love to the lost.

There is a very important message in this.  When we have the opportunity to share the
Gospel we must first speak of sin and its consequences.  No one will see their need of
Christ if they do not understand their true spiritual condition.

“God’s Standards for Purity” — Part 19″

Matthew 5:27-30

The Lord was exposing man’s true condition so that His death on the cross
could be better understood.  Jesus is reaching out in love to the lost.

There is a very important message in this.  When we have the opportunity to share the
Gospel we must first speak of sin and its consequences.  No one will see their need of
Christ if they do not understand their true spiritual condition.

“God’s Standards for Purity” — Part 20″

Matthew 5:31-32

In Matthew 5:31-32 Jesus focused upon the subject of purity.  The bottom line
of His teaching in this text was that any sexual relations outside the bonds of
marriage are forbidden by God.

This passage follows right on the same thought of purity but it will considered in a
different light.  These verses will speak on the subject of marriage and divorce.

“The Bond of Marriage” — Part 21″

Matthew 5:31-32

In Matthew 5:31-32 Jesus only needed two verses to teach His listeners what
God’s standards are for marriage and divorce.

Beginning with verse 31 Jesus referenced the teaching of the rabbis in His day.  They
had taken the teaching of Moses from the book of Deuteronomy and completely
twisted it to fit their lives.  In verse 32 Jesus corrects the teaching of the religious
leaders.

“God’s Standards for Oaths” — Part 22″

Matthew 5:33-37

The passage in Matthew 5:33-37 needs to be proclaimed loudly in our society.
Not only does it need to be proclaimed loudly but it also needs to be heard and
practiced.  It is very hard to know who is telling the truth and who is not.

Many people today will tell you what you want to hear but only for the purpose of
personal gain at any cost.  Lying has become a habit in our society and it is not only
tolerated but it is accepted as a way of life.  See what the Bible says about lying.
